Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information The Hanging Wall (timolsengallery.com) collects, why, and what happens to it. It is written with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) in mind, and it applies to visitors wherever they are.

The short version

The site has no reader accounts, no newsletter tracking, no advertising profiles and no analytics scripts. The only personal information it receives is what you choose to send through the contact form or by email.

Letters and emails

When you use the contact form the site stores your name, the email address you give for a reply, your message, the time it was sent and the country your connection appears to come from (a two-letter code supplied by the network provider, not your exact location). A copy of the message is sent to the editors' inbox so it can be read and answered. The same applies to email sent to viewing@timolsengallery.com.

Letters are used only to reply, to correct mistakes and to improve the site. They are not sold, rented or shared for marketing. Messages are deleted when they are no longer needed, and you can ask for yours to be deleted at any time.

The spam check on forms

Forms on the site use Cloudflare Turnstile, a check that tells people from automated spam without asking you to solve puzzles. To do this Cloudflare processes technical information about your browser and connection. Cloudflare's own privacy policy describes how it handles that information.

Hosting and security logs

The site is served through Cloudflare and hosted on a server in the United States. Like almost every website, the servers keep short-lived technical logs (IP address, the page requested, browser type and time) to keep the site running and to block abuse. Failed attempts to sign in to the site's admin area are logged with the IP address and kept for up to seven days.

Some pages carry labelled partner links to booksellers, course providers or art shops, through affiliate networks such as CJ (Commission Junction) and MaxBounty. The site itself sets no cookie when you click one. If you click a partner link, the network and the shop you arrive at may set their own cookies so that a purchase can be credited to The Hanging Wall. Those cookies are governed by their privacy policies, and you can clear or block them in your browser.

The site counts clicks on partner links per day and per position on the page, without storing your IP address or any identifier, so it can tell which placements are useful.

Your choices and rights

You can ask what information the site holds about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted, by writing to viewing@timolsengallery.com. If you are unhappy with the answer, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, the new version will be posted on this page.
